Summary of the Story "The Wish" by Roald Dahl

The Short story "The Wish" by Roald Dahl is completely based on imagination of main character and unnamed boy.This story has presented imaginative acts of the boy in an imaginative game of red carpet.The title"The wish" has created confusion among the readers because his wish isn't fulfill at the end of the story.He has expected to get a puppy in his birthday after coming across the red carpet and reaching safely.But the wish for all puppy finishes as the boy falls in the black spot of the carpet and losses his imaginative game.

The story has presented the setting of house's front doors stairs and inside the hall where the huge carpet has been placed.This imaginative story is about crossing the hall's red carpet stepping on the right colors and reaching inside from outside front door stairs.

The story begins with scene of boy touching in his scrab.He was sitting alone on his front door stairs.He bent forward to examine it closely.After pondering much he decided to pick that scrab from his wound.He picked his scrab gently with his nail and put it on his thigh.He rubbed his wound's circle and flipped the scrab with his finger.The scrab fell upon the edge of red carpet.When he reached to the carpet different colors of the carpet attracted him.He imagined a game plan using different colors of the carpet.

In this imagination,he thought red colored spots as a lump of coals that could burn him.The black colored spots as poisonous snake that could bite him and leave him to die.The yellow coloured spots as the safe zones where he could step cross the huge carpet to get inside it to get a puppy for his birthday.

The Child imagined very tough and terrible game plan in his mind to get the puppy for his birthday.He started to move ahead on stepping on the yellow color.He balanced his body by waving his arms.He didn't get a proper step ahead.He started to panic because there was no turning back due to his body position.The black coloured spots made him panic very much.He was fearful but collect the courage to reach to his destination.He thought of the possible ways to reach there.He made proper use of his mind paused himself and stepped further quite carefully.Just a step ahead of the half way teh child had to choose an option whether to move on the left or the right.

The left side was more difficult for him to steps but there was less balck spots.So he decided to move ahead using the left side.Unfortunately,he happened to touch black spot which was centimeter close.He felt so panic because he was nearly going to be bitten by a snake but his luck saved him.Again he had a option to choose.He could have gone right but he went left because he feared about black poisonous snakes.In his imagination the snake looked up to see if he touched it or not.In a very panic tone the child said,"I'm not touching you,you mustn't bite me.You know I am not touching you ."

At last,he thought that he was going to get his birthday wish after crossing the safe zone but he couldn't fulfill his wish.He started to wobble being panic.He tried to balance himself by waving his arms however it didn't work.He slowly started to fall towards the black spots.He gave a loud cry as he touched the black spots.His mother was looking for him far behind the house outside in the sunshine.
